Delhi News Updates:  After the thunderstorm Monday morning, cloudy conditions are likely to persist over Delhi till the evening or tomorrow morning, IMD scientist R K Jenamani said. The heatwave conditions, which the capital was witnessing over the last few weeks, are likely to remain suppressed till May 29 or 30, he added. On Monday, the lowest minimum temperature of the season (beginning March 1) was recorded, Jenamani said, as the surface temperature in the national capital fell by 11 degrees, from 29 degree Celsius to 18 degree Celsius due to the thunderstorm. The maximum temperature could remain below 40 degrees till May 26, and is likely to rise to 41 degree Celsius by May 28. A thunderstorm is also expected on Tuesday. The bout of rainfall Monday caused waterlogging, traffic jams and uprooting of trees in several parts Delhi and Gurgaon. Jailed Navjot Sidhu Taken To Hospital For Check-Up, Seeks "Special Diet"

  Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, lodged in Patiala central prison to serve a one-year jail term in a 1988 road rage death case, was taken to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala under heavy security on Monday morning for medical examination, official sources said. The cricketer-turned-politician's counsel HPS Verma said Navjot Sidhu has sought a special diet in jail. He said a board of doctors will carry out a detailed medical examination of Navjot Sidhu at the hospital. "The board of doctors will see what special diet is required and then it will submit its report in a local court (in Patiala)," Mr Verma said over the phone. According to the counsel, Navjot Sidhu cannot consume wheat, sugar, 'maida' and some other food items. "He can have berries, papaya, guava, double-toned milk and food items which do not have fibre and carbohydrates," Mr Verma said. Varanasi court to hear petitions seeking permit to worship 'Shivling', shift wazukhana in Gyanvapi case today

After the Supreme Court handed over the Gyanvapi mosque case to the district judge on Friday, the court of district judge Ajay Krishna Vishvesha in Varanasi will hear three petitions on Monday. The crux of the Gyanvapi dispute is that the Hindu side has claimed the mosque was built after the demolition of a temple in its place in the 16th century, while the Muslim side has been referring to the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act which bars the conversion of the religious character of any place of worship as it existed on August 15, 1947. PETITIONS ON MONDAY Of the three petitions to be heard on Monday, two have been filed by the Hindu side and one by the mosque committee.
